Homeopathy is based on several key concepts
1. The body has an innate capacity to maintain health and the ability to re-establish balance if disease occurs. The human body has an amazing capacity to heal itself. Homeopathy strengthens the body to heal from within.
2. Disease first occurs on the dynamic or energy level of a person when the Vital Force is disturbed. The Vital Force is that energy which maintains life in an individual. In traditional Chinese Medicine it is called Chi. When a person's vital force goes out of balance, that imbalance manifests as symptoms on the spiritual, mental, emotional and/or physical planes. Thus when that energy imbalance is corrected the associated symptoms will disappear.
3. Medicines are given to assist the body in healing itself. Homeopathic medicines do not heal the body themselves. Rather, they stimulate the body to heal itself from within, by re-balancing the vital force.
4. Homeopathy treats the patient, not the disease. An ailment or disease is not separate from the person suffering from it. Physical ailments, for example, often have an emotional component eg: an otherwise independent child may become irritable or clingy when sick. This is noted when taking a case and is taken into account when choosing a remedy. Sometimes a ‘physical' disease will develop immediately after a trauma in a person's life. Such an aetiology is also taken into account when case taking.
5. Homeopathy treats the individual. In homeopathy there is not one medicine, for example, that will treat all cases of influenza. Three influenza patients may be treated with three different remedies and they will all work if prescribed according to the Law of Similars. This is because, in each case, the influenza was attached to three different people constitutionally. Although each person is suffering from the flu, their emotional state and physical symptoms will vary. In each case a medicine is chosen because its symptom picture is most similar to that of the patient.
